You might have noticed our hair, hand and body care concentrates have launched as ‘new and improved’ formulations.

You might also have noticed that the cleaning concentrates are not among them.

If you were a big fan of our household cleaning concentrates, we totally understand your disappointment. We hate disappointing you, so let me explain why we’ve made the tough decision.

Why we are saying goodbye to Ethique cleaning concentrates

The reason we no longer make cleaning concentrates

It comes down to commercial viability.

There has been an explosion of household cleaning concentrates in the market over the last few years. Most of them are small tablets you simply drop into a bottle of water, shake, and voila — you have made a cleaning product.

Genius in its simplicity (a typical spray and wipe is roughly 96% water) ... so you have to wonder why it took us so long to do.

Our cleaning concentrates are vanishing for two reasons; one we cannot make them for the price other companies are selling them for due to the choices we make with packaging, ingredients and sourcing.  And two, our NPD process has as its first checkpoint, ‘is someone else already doing this better, and as sustainably as we could?’.

Our goal has always been to displace more wasteful products with fairer, kinder, more sustainable alternatives, and honestly, some of the cleaning concentrate companies out there are doing a great job.

So, with that, we will instead champion their efforts and point you to them!

Here are a few we recommend:

Whilst we’ve done research on their publicly available information, we recommend you do your research first to make sure they align with your values.

And as always, we highly, highly recommend that you use bottles you already own, rather than buy a nice branded one. And here’s why the best bottle to use is the one you already own..

    Happy cleaning!
